Siddhi Nath Mahavidyalaya - A General Degree College under Vidyasagar University

Efforts of almost five decades has been realized! The prolonged waiting for a college in the vast area surrounding the village Shyam Sundarpur Patna is no more a dream but a reality. One more feather to the throne of National Teacher Shri Nirmal Maity, Ex-Head Master of Shyam Sundarpur Patna High School. It is his heroic efforts behind the establishment of this college. The college has been named Siddhi Nath Mahavidyalaya after the famous and old Jain Temple in the area: Siddhinath Temple where a 15-days mela is organized that starts on Poush Sangkranti every year. This college has started functioning from this academic session 2013-14. It is affiliated to Vidyasagar University. Now Honours in Sanskrit, English, Bengali, Geography, History, and Education are being offered. It is 15 KM from Panskura rail station of Howrah-Kharagpur section. This episode raised very sensitive issue of fetal gender detection by the doctors or medical professionals and subsequently killing unborn girls in an alarming numbers. The show actually compelled the various segments of the society to introspect into our system on various issues.

CIMPA Research Schools in 2013 in India

Centre International de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées (CIMPA) organizes various research schools around the globe.

In 2013, CIMPA is going to fund three such schools in India. One is Fourier Analysis of Groups in Combinatorics in NEHU, Shillong during November 18-30, another is on Generalized Nash Equilibrium Problems, Bilevel Programming anf MPEC in Delhi University during Nov 25 - Dec 6, and the other one is on Current Trends in Computational Methods for Partial Differential Equations in IISc Bangalore during July 8-19. I remember attending few lectures of CIMPA-UNESCO-INDIA school on Soft Computing Approach to Pattern Recognition and Image Processing held in ISI Kolkata in December 2002.

Mathematics department of the RKMVU

It's a very good to see name of few girl students in the list of selected students for M.Sc program in Mathematics for the year 2013 in Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University. As Belur Vidyamandir and Narendrapur RKM Residential College is for boys only, I was wondering if the University would be co-educational or not. Mathematics department of the RKMVU has already started to earn respect from the peers.
